The app tells you what direction to point in and you make manual adjustments using the app as guidance until it is solid. It doesn't need to be perfect because it is a phased array antenna. People with gen2 were actually flat-mounting their starlinks on RVs and successfully getting a signal reliably, so this change actually does make sense.
