Skeumorphisms were a bad idea back then ("folder", use of a 1.44 Mb diskette as "save") and they're worse now. We know how poorly they age - when was the last time you used one of those diskettes? Or held a manila folder?
I think that over time the usefulness of many such examples diminishes, but at least in the transition period to the new tech I see them very useful. We will see soon:).
