It's curious that a word literally meaning "leader of the people" has a such negative connotation while democracy, which literally means "rule by the people" has such a positive one. How can there be a democracy without demagogues?

Perhaps a tangent: If there is a dataset of word connotations vs word meaning closeness, this can be extended to find other language inconsistencies.
