This idea ("I'm against IDs because I fear what they'll do with it") is really interesting to me, because in my country (Argentina) a large part of the national pro-ID sentiment comes
from looking back on our own history and attempting to prevent some of the human rights abuses that were committed in our country.
The last dictatorship tried to erase dissident's identities, kidnapped their children and erased their links with their previous family. As a consequence, Argentina now has a "Right to Identity" enshrined into our Constitution and deeply ingrained into our society and culture.
