While the move was weird, the post about things not playing is weird too. Why post that kind of thing on Reddit instead of raising an issue about the h264 not working on vlc-plugins-freeworld? People make mistakes, this is fixable. If someone refuses to fix it, then that's potentially drama-worthy.
Unless you can identify exactly where the issue is and fix it, reporting it and letting the developers and packagers figure it out is the best way to go. If you choose the wrong project, they'll tell you.
