Over the past few years I have traveled in Latin America quite a bit. One of the things that has surprised me is the lack of usage of electronic road tolling. Multiple times I have waited up to two hours where the slow down was caused by the slowness of paying tolls. The time and productivity loss from this wait I’m sure is staggering.
I’m wondering if anyone has information on why electronic tolling has not been implemented. It seems that a solution using mobile phones could be implemented with a reasonable effort. I see that GoToll in the US is starting to take off.
Any ideas?
