Text based communication is not always asynchronous, ESPECIALLY in the context of remote work. Many people prefer text even for live back-and-forth conversations in order to avoid the overhead of voice/video for a variety of reasons, such as being in a noisy location, having slow internet, carrying multiple conversations, skipping the overhead of greetings/equipment setup.
All email is asynchronous, and some instant messaging channels can be treated asynchronously, but some of it is definitely live. If you are not treating some conversations that way, it is you who is being rude and forcing the way you like to communicate onto others.
