I don't think ios is more secure but it is reliable and pleasant to use. That's the experience I want and pay for. My prefernece as a consumer is being taken away to appease the ideology of tyrants.
It's like with open source how some think every software should be free and opensource, like I use Linux and all but I also like closed source apple and windows. If you want free and open source you have options. If you want phones that let you install arbitrary apk's/apps you have that option but why are you forcing your prefence on others?
Tyranny by any other name. As if it would be more acceptable because it is popular when the people with the opinions refuse to vote with their wallets.
"Meat is not to be sold at stores because we can't afford it and it offends vegetarians"
Ah yes, I too am still recovering from the huge step backwards of suddenly being able to charge my laptop and phone using the same charging cable.
> now they wanr shitty apps being exposed to people who are paying extra for quality
Oh boy, you should avoid the App Store – not sure if you've noticed, but they have a bad app or two in there! But I'll share an advanced strategy on how to deal with these with you: Just don't install them.

Selling iPhones in Europe is entirely optional for Apple. But if they choose to, they better comply with local consumer laws.
That was never a problem for me. Having two cables is not exactly a nightmare. Usb-c is invferior because the male end is on the device, when it breaks the device breaks. Lightning has the opposite, so you may need to replace a cable but there is no connector sticking out of the device subject to constant wear and tear. Lightning by default is faster, has more copper strands and interference resistance. Regardelss of all this, you people's problem is everything is politics, you used the term "backwards" as if it was a progressivism thing. Apple is not a public service company, it makes really popular commercial products, they are free to make inferior (in your opinion) products and sell them at any price.

Apple? I am sure they have bad apps, but by bad I meant malicious as in malware that ruins people's lives. It's just not comparable with android. Android is still a freaking wild west. There is also the question of apple and its users wanting it gatekept. I used android for over a decade before switching to ios, i vehemently hate apple as a company yet the quality of their product is so good, I consider making apple like android a collective punishment of apple users. Android is a nightmare for me, bur again I ask why do you not just use android and let us apple users alone to vote with our wallet. Why do you prefer totalitarian tyranny?

I agree but EU law as it standa is socialist tyranny. EU consumers can buy android and force apple to use usb-c. But the tyranny here is that both android and ios makers are in the US and EU law makers' decision is affecting the US and the world.
Honestly, I did think socialism done moderately was a good thing but this sort of stuff has turned me sour. Oppression and tyranny don't suddenly become a good thing because you are popular or have good intentions.
It is ridiculous to me that you are telling me I can't pay a company to give me goods I like with my hard earned money because you are my f@cking nanny and get to decide what I am allowed to like??
Bring back public drawing and quartering. This time, do it in the middle of a stadium and put it on YouTube.
> "As Apple explains on its website, all these features allow Safari to work seamlessly across devices: 'Same Safari. Different device: Safari works seamlessly and syncs your passwords, bookmarks, history, tabs, and more across Mac, iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch.'"
i see a future where ad-filled facebook, ahem, meta operated app store which is heavily subsidized like amazon fire store was in order to extract oh so analytics data on both android and IOS.
same for google moving play store over to IOS with the same intentions.
my only hope is f-droid will get more attention, it will get better and more resistant to "pressures", same for small projects like aurora store which would not need to hide behind enemy lines
question. wouldn't amazon Kindle fall into gatekeeper because they only permit amazon store on their devices and do not allow easy jailbreaking and stuff.?
They just want a place for discovery and a way for users to install application on the computer they bought.
