Suffice to say, you don't just go download your favourite open-source operating system in the mainframe world. You pay IBM a shitload of money for their proprietary one.

There is linux-on-Z but that's a completely different environment, intentionally. It's basically running linux in a virtualized environment (the only kind of environment on a mainframe) so that stuff expecting POSIX can run on the same hardware as mainframe jobs.
