I see zero reason to think that Musk is a genius, although he's clearly a smart guy. And without the support of his family, he probably wouldn't have been able to accumulate the initial wealth he needed to do the stuff he's done.

Both. Many people with Dad's money have lost it in a couple of years. He was able to use it to fund multiple revolutionary companies (and succeed at it).
