What's new since 2014? Have the patents expired recently?

Yeah, without context this makes no sense to post. Almost feels like karma farming from that certain other website.

Since when we call an inventor specialized in a field and having a patent that he seemingly uses and licences, a patent troll? The article angle is questionable
