Saying our mismanagement of the biosphere is somehow "grim" for the planet as a whole is hyperbole.
No volcanoes were harmed in the destruction of the anthropocene ecosystem will make a fine epitaph.
By the time enough of us figure out that it's US who are consuming too much, or more appropriately, excreting too much waste heat, co2, plastic... by the time we figure it out, people will be dying of heat related issues in Texas and Florida.
I don't excuse myself... I live off the grid and grow some of my own food. My lifestyle is pretty low impact, but it's far from zero and I had to spend quite a bit to make it work. And not everyone will be able to live like I do. Mea Culpa.
But I have hope. Many in the next generation seem to grok what's going on. More in my generation understand as well. It's HARD to live the low impact lifestyle we probably all need to live to avoid envirogeddon.
But... if you can... maybe take a vacation close to home and keep that mobile phone an additional year.
Okay... I feel better for screaming into the void... feel free to send me an invoice for a counseling hour of therapy.
Then I want to know how the previous temp was determined that they compared it to. I'm sure they are not trying to lie to us but I'm certain they are wrong. The ocean is not warming.

Conspiracies and mistakes abound, to be sure; but they don't need to be hidden, in general they happen right out in the open, or are exposed relatively quickly. We don't need to impugn the hard work of dedicated people just because your intuition says otherwise.
