It's crazy. The information in the collective human mind sees no problem killing and being cruel to so many forms of life, yet sees a piece of extraordinary hardware that has created and asks: "this may at some point become sentient."

Well if that extraordinary piece hardware should gain the ability to rip our faces off, shouldn't we at least try to be nice to it?
