I quine prints it's own source code. This essentially prints an older version of itself.

But it does print it's source code if you don't modify it. It's like saying that it's not a quine because you formatted it.

The unmodified version is obviously still a quine. The modified version is not. And yes, formatting matters!

Agreed, but no one ever asserted that it is a quine no matter what. It is a quine that just so happens to still run after decay
