I forgot he got pardoned. Trump presidency: if you have money you could use that money to literally buy a get out of jail card.

Effectively yes.

But a federal pardon is for federal crimes. So if a state such as New York convicted you then a presidential pardon won't save you.

I know - its the brashness, level of ease and amount of pardons by the Trump presidency that makes it different. Not that it isn't done by other parties.
