It was news to me. I thought 'hacker news' sprang from PG's brow as they say but apparently he just appropriated it and changed the original 'startup news' to 'hacker news'. Today, hackernews.com redirects to this site.
This perfectly mirrors the 'flipping' of the 'hackers' by the establishment. The original hackernews.com apparently was not approved. The one we're on, established ~9 years after that in '00s, is a darling of the establishment.
I love these symmetric lines in the universe.
