Take a look at chip shortage a few years ago. Demand went to about 5x normal demand in the space of a year. The solution was to increase supply but it's not a misunderstanding of supply and demand if you told me that demand increased for xyz reason.

People can live alone, affordably, with a higher supply of housing, not just for rent and purchase, but we’ve gotta build much more than single family zoning.
The country stopped keeping up with housing demand in the 1980's. Combine that with centralization and abandonment of the countryside, it's no wonder that prices are where they are.
Just not in my neighborhood.
