How anyone is applauding OpenAI is beyond me. They have done nothing but make AI a more closed ecosystem since their inception.

Because they gave a product that everyone loves, which is a credit to them. At this point nobody cares about whether they made AI open, or they really care about the safety and negative aspect of LLMs.
