1. Tony Blair suggesting an idea is, currently, one of the best way to discredit it immediately with the vast majority of the UK public. I wish that certain media outlets would stop pretending that people care about Blair (apart from the usual rethorical questions: "why does he still hold an OBE" and "why is he not in prison").
2. ID cards would be great in the UK, for consistency. Different places now want different type of ids (usually driving licence or passport) plus something else to prove your address (no, the one mentioned on the driving licence is not good enough).
