Dark Towers was amazing and often quite creepy. My mother was in a few episodes about a boy that gets kidnapped (she played a kidnapper in it). I was about 7 at the time and I remember being really freaked out when they dyed his hair in a public toilet so he wouldn't be recognised. Seemed crazy they were giving kidnappers ideas!
Actually - maybe it wasn't Dark Towers, but it was a kids reading TV show. Will see if I can find it
