Finally a good Linux tablet – Fydetab Duo (opens in new tab)

It comes with rebranded chromium os. I don't care if its got a Linux "subsystem", or an android subsystem either. How well will it operate with just the Linux of my choice on it? Will it be any better or cheaper than what's available now?

This video also came up in my YouTube recommendations. I'd like to see more Linux tablets available. If Framework would make one, I think that would be ideal. I desire one that could integrate well with SXMO, as well as have open-source design docs/specs so I could CAD a custom keyboard interface/mount for it.

On its own, the Fydetab weighs in at about 2.1 pounds. Attaching both the cover and the kickstand adds about 7 ounces.

This is using RK3588 CPU, which does not have a mainline kernel support -- this means that without a lot of hacking, you are stuck with FydeOS. No common Linux distro would run on it, and once manufacturers stop selling this (or move on to next generation) you are likely to get stuck with old kernels with no security support.

Buying it to play with it for a few weeks and then put in the drawer and forget about it? Maybe. A good tablet to be used for years? No, not this one.

Linux can easily replace a Mac or Windows machine for me, but I’ve yet to see any device that could even come close to the iPad Pro. Apple’s second generation pencil is perfect to the point where I’ve never once had to consciously charge it or accidentally leave it somewhere. And the software support is amazing. Linux on phones, I can see becoming viable once the software improvements are there. Linux on tablets? No. Not until someone can come up with something like the Apple Pencil.
