Ask HN: HN what text editor do you use for notes?

On my phone, I use "Notepad - simple notes" aka "Notepad Free" by atomczak. According to the app store, it has ads, and some people have reported seeing them, but in my several years of using it for free, I've never seen one. It's a basic notepad which is perfect for my needs

When I used a Samsung Galaxy Note, I would use S Note which was similar, though it had the benefit of using the stylus, which I kind of miss having

On my computer, I'll either use Sublime Text or vim, depending on which context I'm working in

I am sure it's a passionate criticism, but. Maybe not such an appropriate way to word whatever it is you're trying to describe here.

I use Geany most of all and integrated it with various global shortcuts, like c-sup-y for todaY's journal entry. Then I have global tools integrated with it, like FSearch as a file interface. I use the snippets features of Geany heavily in notetaking. Schedule/timer services create my journal files each day.

Also use Cudatext, Nano, NeoVim, Mousepad, and others depending.

On Android I use QuickEdit+ to toss docs back and forth with Geany via the cloud.

I use Kate since this is the default text editor on KDE Plasma. It just works and fits my needs. I also use Vim sometimes (no additional plugins).

Evernote - which isn't crap, it works quite well for me..

I have paid for Typora whch is very cute app but not for notes in my workflow as it can't do internal attachments and images...

I've been using Workflowy. I used it years ago and somehow forgot about it, and came back to it a few months back after getting tired of countless Notepad instances being open on my PC at all times. My usage has gradually increased past regular notes and end-of-day reports to managing my fiction projects in it.

I use a function in my ash/bash shells as that is where I spend most of my time. I do not sync it anywhere but it would be trivial to sync to/from one of my sftp/https servers. This is certainly not for people that do not spend a lot of time in a shell.

I'm a fan of the ones you listed as garbage. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course, but those have been working for me for years... decades in the case of notepad, which I use mostly for ephemeral notes or as a cheap clipboard.

Either notepad++ when it is a standalone note, or a scratch file in rider when programming.

Logseq. It's the comfiest I've found so far.
