Ask HN: Monetizing APIs

What is the best way to charge for access to my own APIs? Im assuming that it would include Pay as you go, Subscription, and tiered pricing.

I've looked at the API gateways but none of them come with monetization of the shelf. It looks like it has to be created from scratch.
