These two articles remind me of a comic-book story. Inventor Gyro Gearloose (Disney, Carl Barks) made a machine that turned rock into ice cream. He put it on an island, started it up, and for some reason fell asleep. (IIRC it was 'mint frappe' ice cream, and 'Little Helper' woke him up.)
