All this talk about a "king" is wildly misplaced, no matter how many longform words the author used to discuss it. We don't need singular rulers; instead, the United States has managed very successfully with its fifty sovereign states. Recent Supreme Court rulings are continuing to shape things in this direction--the intended direction of the Founders.
I agree with much of the article, like that we should focus on "purple" issues. The thing is, the way we should (and are, and have) do this is to do it on a more local level. There is no hope trying to find a least common denominator at the federal level. It's impossible. There are too many citizens and the country is too large geographically.
