Agreed. The distinction between applications and windows that macOS/Mac OS has always made was jarring at first, but definitely one of those things that after the initial adjustment simply feel
different
rather than objectively better or worse.

Better or worse depends on use case, but I will say that a tree is a much better semantic fit than a flat list.
