Gnutella is flawed beyond belief: it has no community. No paradox there. The thing that makes Napster, ICQ, and other p2p programs fun to use are their communities. Gnutella has no community, just a bunch of people hoping to download files from each other that contain what their filenames actually say they contain. There's no instant messaging, no presence, no socializing, and no incentive to share with others. "Free riding also means that Gnutella won't scale" -- that says it all. If you want to be Internet-Scale, you need more than decentralization.
