Odd to me that this post got so much activity. It seems to be wholly unremarkable yet over a thousand comments and up votes? Is it just me here scratching my head?

"Google search quality has been declining for years and is now unusable" is an evergreen meme on Hacker News. Almost every discussion of Google as a company on HN includes some form of this discussion. Google is one of the companies people on HN love to hate.

The search quality HAS plummeted. This is orthogonal to my love/hate of Google.

I honestly had the same reaction, two theories besides the truth of the “evergreen” explanation made by the other commenter:

(1) It was by Michael Siebel, the head of YC right now (hey we’re also on a YC website now).

(2) New Year’s, so there are less news topics to discuss and upvote instead.
