You can also run amazon linux on premise also, i was using it as a kvm box and it worked fine. I was wondering if it was a feasible option to replace centos with it.
Amazon Linux 2 is still a supporter OS. When it was released we announced it had 5 years of LTS support. With the AL2022 preview, we have just announced what comes after AL2.
AL2 is less of a rolling release than AL1 was. AL1 had a new release every six months.
Currently Amazon Linux 2 is used for AWS workspaces (virtual desktops), so it doesn't seem far fetched that they'll eventually allow AL2022 for it as well.
