Ask HN: What perks from the past do you have?

In the past there was an option to assign your own domain to the MS outlook mail service (for free). I did that and use outlook.live.com ever since as my mail provider using my own domain.

I hoped that using outlook as mail provider will boost the credibility of my emails so that they are not constantly marked as spam just because the domain is not widely used. This has not come true but I still have a free mail service behind my domain :)

What perks do you have that are not available any more but still work?

Back when Yahoo Mail's inbox size was default 10 megabyte I got a free upgrade to 250 megabyte. It was added to a configuration file or in an account setting that wasn't displayed publicly. Years later when Yahoo increase the size to 1 gigabyte, mine remained at 250 and customer service didn't know how to increase mine.

A house.

The new generations have very little chance here of ever obtaining a house of their own.

I'm sure that wasn't the kind of answer that you were looking for, but 'perks from the past' is potentially quite broad and for me this is the one that stands out above all of the others. Which is odd because housing is considered a human right and if you are relegated to renting then you will essentially be sucked dry for many many years.

I was getting Amazon Prime Student for at least a decade for the old price of $39(?). Well after everyone else's was migrated to a more expensive full account, mine sat under the radar.

Finally, last year, it was flagged and auto-upgraded to the new ridiculously-priced Prime plan. I meant to cancel the renewal but it ended up getting renewed before I remembered.
