Ask HN: How long should a CV be?

I had an interesting exchange whereby the HR recruiter stated that my CV should have a length of 1 page for every 2 years of experience.

To me this seemed excessive; however, maybe I am out of touch.

I am not sure if this matters, but it was for a German company.

I have always heard 1 page is ideal.

I am not thrilled about my corporate work experience because my time in the corporate world is slow, boring, and largely unproductive. As a result I banish my corporate work experience to the distant nether region of page 3.

I would rather talk about my open source contributions and 5 military deployments. It’s sad when a military deployment becomes such a greater topic of conversation because they are usually pretty boring as well.
