Don't forget: this was leaked. Apple may never have told us. They could have released some of the features without letting on about the scanning.

Was it? From what I can tell they published this in a general media release today. If it was leaked before today I seem to have missed it.

It was leaked on Twitter yesterday and followed up by a major newspaper article with more details. The surprise created a lot of anger.

Today was Apple's first press release about it.

Apple certainly didn't want it to be revealed like this, and they might have kept the pieces not related to child privacy hush hush.

It’s always feasible that they put a change in that does something users don’t want and invades hardware privacy. But this update is not an instance of that. It’s simply changing how we interact with their SaaS. We’re no further down some slippery slope.

Anyway that's not the issue.

The issue is what they are going to do next without telling you.

The issue is installation of spyware engine, not it's current usage.
