If that is as you say then the math community exponentially embarrassed themselves by discussing the mathematical details of his proofs. Did they also do that out of respect for him ?
He died only a few months after that presentation. Yes out of respect and, like I said, an unwillingness to tell him directly that his proof was wrong and then to decline to host him at the event.
