EEE is more insidious than this so it's important to not dilute its meaning. EEE is about taking a previously open, successful interface and then making it proprietary. It's destroying what was already flourishing. In Apple's case, they just built their own thing.
No? They hired Chris Lattner and paid him to work on LLVM and Clang for around a decade. Clang and LLVM are still open source, and the Swift compiler is also open source.
