The website says they have 1033 transmitters and 33 are out/degraded. 96.8% of transmitters are working as expected which I think at least sounds reasonable

A little checking on archive.org shows an example of 15 outages. So it's pretty clear that 100% is not expected.

I'm listening to Spokane WXL86 over the air right now. I can't make out any problems, even thought the status page says, "degraded."

Says due to excessive snowpack, so I’m guessing issues would be during the day and/or at fringes of coverage.

is this related to today's (also caused by weather prediction failure) massive chain of delays for Southwest Airlines? Been stuck in Denver for 2 extra hours so far because they said the entire Southwest weather system went down...

Can anyone suggest a good weather instrument set for home use?

Something i can use with a pi or arduino?

Davis Instruments makes some of the best and most accurate devices. I have the Vantage Pro2 sensor suite and recommend it. More expensive than some but worth it. There are various ways to upload data to the internet.

I have an AccuRite weather station, it has an indoor and outdoor component. The indoor display is connected via USB to a Pi running WeeWX under Raspbian. It works well, I would recommend it.

I bought an Acurite Iris for $90 and a $25 SDR dongle for the RPI (no indoor hub necessary). You don’t even need WeeWx if you just want to pump messages to MQTT… this can be done with rtl-433.

Was up and running in 15 minutes with this guide:

Agreed. My AcuRite/RPi/Weewx combo has been running solid since Dec 2014, with zero issues.

If and when it does die, I'll switch to a Davis and whatever newest RPi is available.

Radio is fickle. Antennas break. Wires fray.
