Haha, this was my experience with Cubase. Then one day, I came into a music shop complaining about Cubase. The guy showed me how to hook up a simple VSTi, and I was hooked. I discovered Reason soon after.
Then there was this Dutch House DJ, A-lusion (I think that was his name). He said he used Reason in combination with Cubase.
That got me really really hooked.
Then I found some videos of some hip hop artist, showing how he made hip hop beats in Reason.
That got me so hooked that I still want to go back to that time. But alas, I'm programming. I like programming, but producing music was my passion back in the day.
