I live in an old, three story brick house from the 1930. It's small, 100 m² (1075 sq.ft.). The 5 GHz from my Airport Express can barely reach the kitchen. My solution is to put additional APs in the house, but with low transmit power. I use 25 mW personally. But then again, the chances that the neighbor will agree to this, are slim to none.
