What stops this subreddit from becoming spammed with fake reviews or otherwise succumbing to the problems of Amazon reviews?

simple, moderation. If there are fakes, they can be caught because of new user accounts and community down voting. Users will be banned that are not honest. As long as the moderator is not gaming the system, up voting and down voting and finding fakes due to karma should work

Probably just the fact that it'll take a little while for sellers/spammers to catch on.

karma and minimum posting requirements will remove fakes. Also banning users. It's new so this is not enforced yet but eventually if there is enough traffic, there will be strong moderation to keep it going.

One problem with amazon reviews is anyone who makes a purchase can post a review. In all honesty, this should be enough but in reality it is also gamed. Karma and old user history works because you can't game it unless you play the long game just to sell something. Everything can be gamed but how hard you make it, is what makes it more successful than others
