The Australian government wants Facebook to pay for linking to news websites.
Of course Facebook and other countries have no desire to pay every time someone posts a link to a news website, so they’re cutting it out completely.
The legislation hasn’t been enacted yet, so I assume Facebook is using this move for leverage to show people what the future looks like under the proposed government legislation.
