Tesla has far more credibility with its self-driving plan with me. I can buy a Tesla with FSD (tons of my friends have YouTube videos showing each new FSD beta in action), but I can't buy a Waymo or even use it.
Waymo's CEO sounds like he's spreading FUD because he and his company are heavily invested trying to solve FSD using LiDAR maps. I don't think that approach will work out because it's brittle and fails to leverage all the new AI tech that does work. It strikes me as very similar to the way legacy aerospace companies spread FUD on rockets that land themselves, even as the first Falcon 9 got reused. Those attitudes haven't faired very well: just the other day, a single F9 booster was successfully reused for the 8th time...
