At Billy's I never get hacked or spammed, and am able to engage in healthy, face-to-face communication with my fellows. There is usually a guitar to play if you like that sort of thing.

Private forums.

By that, I mean forums that only show their content to members who have created an account. Some of them may have a vetting process that can include paying money for the upkeep of the site.

Finding such forums is a problem in itself, and I can't help you, there.

Specific subreddits or focused forums like HN with good moderation.
