Thanks to the globe rendering in glorious 2fps, I've just learned that apparently I don't have HW acceleration because I'm using chromium on linux.

Chromium supports hardware acceleration on Linux. Some GPU drivers are buggy and have been blocklisted to prevent frequent crashes and rendering errors. The most common is Nouveau.
