The best non-conformists are those who can conform, and demonstrate that in a productive way, but really prefer to crayon outside the lines. Those sorts maintain enough empathy with the rest of the team to be a good “team player”, and are then able to introduce new ideas into an environment of “let’s give it a go” instead of active hostility to the jerk.
