Companies allocate millions to billions of dollars for projects and have a need to know how things are progressing and if there are issues and resources that can be brought to bear to solve them.

If your manager or "Boss" is micro-managing you to death, then leave. The culture is toxic and a 10 minute stand up is the least of your issues.
