Interestingly I have encountered voices that using "elitist" language like Common Lisp, OCaml or Haskell combined with widening recruitment pool (by going globally distributed) actually increased some companies abilities to hire experienced developers - because it filtered popular languages that suffered from higher number of people who had higher opinion of their skills than warranted - or who just wanted to "fake it till you make it", especially after boot camps became popular.
