In that case it should support linking a js source file usin g <script> tag, which is used in his blogger trial. I guees the same thing should apply to wordpress.COM too.

No. For security reasons, Wordpress.com doesn't allow you to run Javascript.

Oh so only VIP users (like techcrunch) could have that. So somehow *.blogspot.com have nailed that security problem.
