In the UK coal is becoming obsolete, we use natural gas turbine generators instead. "Better than coal" is damning with faint praise.

I think the argument is that it's better than coal with respect to radioactivity, and better than any fossil fuel with respect to CO2, and better than most renewables with respect to land usage.
