Ask HN: What are the best PDM/PLM options for small hardware startups?

My business partner and I are quitting our jobs next month to start a small engineering design/consulting firm. Both of us have some software skills, but we're focusing on electrical and mechanical hardware.

It's just the two of us, but for our own sanity we'd like to be able to keep electrical schematics, bills of materials, and electrical/mechanical CAD in lock step with each other. It seems git is a straight forward option for revision controlling software.

Are there some good resources where I could research what the different options are?

Any first hand experience with implementing PDM/PLM in small companies?
