This kinda looks like it has an epaper screen? Or at least a simple black and white lcd. Potentially uses a lot less power than a torch.

That's because they all crank so easily. Surely if they used gears and required more force to convert from few rotations to many it would be better?

They could add an automatic self-cranking mode? Or an add-on crank-automator - perhaps solar-powered.
