I was expecting better from Mozilla
As I understand it, we're talking about an augmentation plugin; essentially automatically showing a Reddit or HN thread for any site you visit. I've never used it, but I imagine the comments are not too far away from Voat; pretty much a cesspool.
Recently I've been reading Jonathan Haidt's book The Coddling of the American Mind and it's made me realize just how quickly we are to "otherize" people who don't agree with. Americans are very quick to split in us vs them and it's sickening. While Facebook, Reddit, Twitter and now Mozilla may think they're doing a good thing by blocking what they consider hateful speech, it's just helping these people double down on think they're in the right.
We should not be afraid of ideas. Speech != violence. Violence is violence. With platforms banning more and more offensive content, and increasing the label of what is bannable, we're seeing a huge split in our world. People who could once agree to disagree now don't even want to share the same space with one another. It's all call out culture and it's terrible.
I still use Firefox because fuck Google and Chrome, but it's getting to the point where the "lesser of the two evils" is still making really questionable decisions.
That's probably why it was removed.
